My suggestion is to make sure that the.exe is named exactly like the old.exe. Years ago, I learned from my friend Xtyler92 that all you have to do is replace the.exe, license folder and delete the save folder from the old program and replace the.exe and the license folder from the download in order to upgrade. I've done this in the past and it worked just fine.
