To:,. Sketchlist 3d pro full. Date: Tue, 14 Dec 2004 13:04:47 +0100 Hi Chris and Jared I have not tested any think, but a simple search on MetaLink gave this: Note: 172179.1 - Which Oracle Client versions will connect to and work against which version of the Oracle Database?

It states: In short, any version of SQL.Net's version 2 Client (2.3.x) and up to Net 9.0.x, will be able to connect to any version of Oracle Database version 7.3.x and up to 9.2.x, with certain compatibility issues that are explained below. Oracle client version 9.2.x is not certified and cannot connect to Oracle RDBMS version 7.3.x. I have not tested this, and MetaLink is not always the truth, to whole truth and nothing but the truth, but this is more fact that something heard years ago. Jared: I would definitely go for 9.2 (9.2.0.6) as this is a supported version, whereas Oracle 8i is desupported ages ago. /karsten weikop -Original Message- From: chris@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, December 14, 2004 11:56 AM To: jkstill@xxxxxxxxx Cc: Karsten Weikop; Oracle-L Freelists Subject: Re: Oracle 8i on Windows 2003 Jared, You're the lucky one.

I'm sure I remember an Oracle support statement at a User Group meeting saying that V7 to 9i wasn't supported and in many cases didn't work. If this a production system I'd go with 8.1.7 just to be on the safe side. Cheers, Chris Quoting Jared Still: Apparently I was mistaken on the V7 client not being able to connect to a V9 database. I just set it up, and it appears to work fine. Thanks to all that replied. (21 replies) Has anyone here installed, or attempted to install 8i on Windows 2003 Enterprise? Problems encountered and success stories both welcome. I need to move.

I know there is a problem with migrating from RDBMS V7 to V8 because length of rowid changed and therefore some client applications (e.g. forms 3.0) could not use a V8 database.

Problems encountered and success stories both welcome. I need to move an app that is in a 7.3.4 database to 8i. The question now is whether to do it on Windows 2000 or 2003.

Moving to 9i is not an option due to the v7 client. Linux is also not an option, unfortunately. Thanks- Jared Still Certifiable Oracle DBA and Part Time Perl Evangelist - - Jared Still Certifiable Oracle DBA and Part Time Perl Evangelist - Chris Dunscombe Christallize Ltd -. References:.
